Till now man has been up against Nature; from now on he will be up against his own nature.
~Dennis Gabor, Inventing the Future, 1964
And with those words, David is off to California. Is this the end? No more posts from our beloved friend? Simply … no. Stay tuned.
The Last Stand: UC Berkeley Oak Grove Tree-Sit
Wed, 18 Jun 2008 18:10:26 +0000
Last night I called my friend Asa Dodsworth, one of the main organizers of the UC Berkeley Tree-sit, that’s responsible for protecting the grove of Oak trees from being destroyed — unnecessarily and greedily — to build a sports stadium for the school. A stadium that could easily be built somewhere else; somewhere that isn’t [...]
Nature is Our Friend, But for How Long?

Passage written from my Garden on May 29, 2008.
I look at the mulberry seedlings that I recently planted. I look at the beautiful purple cornflower that I planted a few hours ago. I look at the dogwood and the maple tree. I look at the bamboo towering over the fence. I look at the sea [...]
You are Not your Physical Body, but More (or less)

Peace!
First understand this: Life has no opposite. That
which is considered death is a miscalculation in one’s
understanding of life. The consideration one has of
death is a superficial perspective of what life truly
is. The notion that when one ‘leaves’ his body he is
dead is an unsophisticated, immature understanding of
the life processes.
Life has no end, no opposite. When [...]
Mind Petals Plastic Bags Kill Campaign Continues
Mon, 12 May 2008 22:14:03 +0000
A few weeks back on April 29th, we had a Mind Petals Gathering at the Gramstand Cafe in the East Village. The night was focused primarily on plastic bag pollution, as I gave a discussion on the pollution / death factors of plastic bags.
We had some powerful discussion from everyone that attended. The night was [...]
Insight from Watching a Crow being Mobbed
Fri, 09 May 2008 01:45:51 +0000
Sitting in my garden yesterday, I saw an amazing event. Something large and black seemed to have fallen in the pine tree that sits on the side of my garden near the fence. When I looked up, it was a very large black crow at least three times the size of most the birds I [...]

So we all have our favourite question site. And we all know the big-brand takes on the space. But now there’s the Web 2.0 Q&A sites: Wondir (Wondr?), Oyogi (in beta, of course) and the latest, Yedda.

Have you been receiving a bunch of emails for the same Best Answer? Or, maybe you haven’t been receiving notifications at all? What gives?
We recently released a bug fix, and although it took care of one issue it seems to have created some problems with the best answer email notifications we usually send out.
We apologize for any inbox flooding this may have caused. We are aware of the problem, and have a team of insecticide-wielding Yamsters working on a fix for this new bug as we speak.

Hey, Answerers. We like to try out new things, and the video answers idea was something that many of us have been fascinated with for some time now. Sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don’t. I guess we can chalk this one up to learning experience.

It’s been very interesting around here since we launched the Yedda public beta…
There is no way we can describe the excitement - seeing you folks asking questions you care about; getting answers that help you out; sharing your knowledge with other people.
But enough of that. We’ve been busy talking with you, hearing what you think should be changed, and fixing what needs to be fixed. There have been many small fixes, here are some of the bigger changes we’ve made:
-
Opera compatibility
Fixed issues related to the Opera browser, mainly with regards to how pages are cached. Yedda should work great with Opera now, let us know if you run into any more issues.
(Mac Safari users: we still have some glitches with Safari, they should be fixed very soon)
-
Text Editor popup windows
The popup windows in the text editor had a tendency not to close. Now they do.
-
Social Bookmarks
To make bookmarking Q&As and sharing them with your friends easier, we’ve added shortcuts to several social bookmarking sites just above the question text. If your favorite bookmarking service is missing from the list, let us know.
-
Blog This
Do you blog? Seen an interesting Q&A on Yedda that you’d like to share with your blog readers? It’s easier now with the “blog this” link, found above the question text.

I’ve said it before – video is an extremely helpful way to answer questions. It's one thing to tell someone a vital piece of information, but showing them opens up so many more opportunities.
Since we keep talking about this concept so much, we teamed up with some of the Yahoo! Video team members and decided to go out on a limb by using video to ask a few questions. We’ve recorded videos of ourselves asking each question, and astute Answerers will note that we’ve already asked our questions on Answers.
Here’s the catch, next Wednesday we will be choosing best answers for these questions, and the best answer for each question will have to be answered in the form of a video. Film your answer and upload it to Yahoo! Video. Then include the link in your Answer to our question. Click here for a look at all the questions, rules, and instructions for uploading your videos and answering questions. For those who wish to embed videos in blog posts, check this out.
You will notice that the featured questions throughout the next week will consist primarily of the Yahoo! Answers Staff questions, so if you have trouble finding them simply revisit the Answers front page.
Also, each staff member will be blogging about their question, so make sure to check back for input from the rest of the gang.
Here are the videos, with each question linked in below:
How should a baby car seat be installed to maximize safety?
How do I do a soccer bicycle kick?
What are some early 80’s or 90’s dance moves?
How can I climb uphill better on my bike?
What is the best way to groom my two kittens?
What are some tips for optimizing videos for the web?
What's the best way to hide the cables for my surround sound speakers?
Have fun, we can’t wait to see what kind of answers we get from the eyes of your video cameras.
